LAURA MCFATE BROWN

Laura Ann McFate Brown, the oldest of ten children born to Samuel and Rachel Stigers McFate, was born on August 12, 1871, near Walcott, Iowa, and passed away Saturday, November 21, 1959, reaching the age of 88 years, three months, and nine days.

When still a young girl her parents brought her to Sheridan, where she received her education, and where she joined the Methodist Church.

On the 28th of January, 1914, she was united in marriage with Nathaniel Brown. Her husband preceded her in death, and then she made her home with her parents in Grinnell, and cared for them till their death. She also took much interest in others, and her home was a friendly haven where brothers, nieces and nephewews found shelter. Four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Brown was a good Christian, interested in her church, attending with regularity until failing health deprived her of that joy.

For a while she lived in Montezuma, and then returned to the city of Grinnell, where for the past six years, she lived at the home of Mrs. Della Wood, who gave her the best care until November 15th, when she was taken to the hospital.

She leaves to mourn her passing three brothers: Orville McFate of Grinnell, Clarence McFate of Tama, Clark McFate of Norwood, Missouri, as well as many nieces and nephews.
