ORVILLE MCFATE
RITES SATURDAY

Orville A. McFate, 86, of 1421 Reed St., died Thursday morning at Grinnell General Hospital East. He had been hospitalized recently and had not been in the best of health for the past two years.

The son of Samuel and Rachel Stigers McFate, Mr. McFate was born in Muscatine County near Walcott, Iowa, on April 5, 1883. A the age of three his family moved to Sheridan township, Poweshiek County, Iowa. He attended the rural schools near his family farm and attended the Sheridan Methodist church.

In 1907 he married Linnie Babb and the couple lived and farmed on Mr. McFate's parents farm for nine years. In 1916 Mr. McFate bought a farm in Madison county, near Winterset, which the couple farmed for four years. In 1920 they returned to Grinnell and Mr. McFate was employed by the J.W. Norris and Sons garage where he ran the oil truck. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1923.

Mr. McFate continued in the oil business, working for himself for (12)? years. On Feb. 21, 1925, he married Hattie Hink at Hampton, Iowa and the couple continued to make their home in Grinnell. He later was employed by the DeKalb and Cargill Seed Corn Companies until his health failed. At one time he was a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge, the Odd Fellows Lodge in Sheridan Township, and the Masonic Lodge at Peru, Iowa.

Mr. McFate was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and six brothers and three sisters--John, Harvey, Leroy, Victor, Clark and Clarence McFate, Mrs. Laura Brown, Mrs. Alma McElvania and Mrs. Lucy Dexter.

Survivors include his wife Hattie, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. McFate will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Myron Harris, pastor of the Northside Friends church, officiating.

Burial will be made in Hazelwood Cemetery.
