Poweshiek county lost another pioneer resident when Mrs. Genevieve McKeag, Malcom, died in St. Francis hospital, Grinnell, May 26. Funeral services were held at a Grinnell mortuary May 28 conducted by the Rev. Fred Peters, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church north of Malcom.

Lester Schneekloth Jr., was soloist. He was accompanied by Mrs. Nellie Farley. Mrs. Lotus Goodrich and Mrs. Everette Wood cared for the floral offering.

Burial was in the family lot in Ivy Hill cemetery, Malcom. Casket bearers were Ted Spading, Earl Lamb, Everette Wood, Lotus Goodrich, Burdette Farley and Delmar Hanssen.

She was a daughter of W. Henry and Margaret Threisen Illian, and was born near Walcott, July 28, 1882. When she was 1 1/2 years old the family moved to a farm at Malcom. In 1905 she was married to James B. McKeag, who died in 1935, and they farmed and lived on her parents' farm.

Four of the seven children survive their mother. They are Earl J. McKeag who farms the home place; Kenneth H. McKeag, Malcom; Mrs. Otto Steffen, Deep River, and Mrs. Millard Main, Brooklyn. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Mrs. McKeag was a member of the Trinity church, being baptized into it on her 12th birthday.
