Nov. 19, 1909

Sorrow has been brought to many friends in Grinnell by the death of Mrs. Lucia Howland Day, well remembered here as a Grinnell girl and a graduate of the high school and college. Death came Sunday night following a paralytic seizure. Mrs. Day was born in Roscoe, Ill., August 20, 1854. Her parents moved to Charles City and later to Grinnell while she was yet a child. She graduated from the college at the age of 19 years and taught in the public schools of Fairmount and Sherburn, Minn., until her marriage to Frank A. Day in 1883. Mr. Day was private secretary to the late Governor John A. Johnson, of Minnesota, and holds a high position in that state. His wife was a woman of gracious and charming presence, active in many organizations. Besides her husband, she is survived by four children.
