ARLENE FANTON

Arlene Strand Fanton, 91, of the Monticello Senior Home in Monticello, native of rural Gilman, died Thursday, April 15, at the home.

Funeral services were conducted at noon today at Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Philip Windsor officiating. Graveside services were conducted at 3:30 p.m. at Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

She was the daughter of Theodore and Gladys Wallace Strand and was born Jan.18, 1905 on a farm near Gilman. She was a 1923 graduate of Gilman High School and attended Grinnell College for two years.

She was married To Aaron D. Fanton Dec. 20, 1925, in Gilman. A longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, she was a member of the Ambar Grotto Auxiliary and Central Park Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two sons, Aaron of Kansas City, Mo., and Wallace of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Dorothy Lovig of Springville; one brother, Carleton Strand of Marion; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Wallace and Carrol.

A memorial fund has been established for Camp Courageous.
