Died, at her home two and one half miles west of Guernsey, Iowa, of lagrippe, Mrs. Nancy Jane Connell, aged 53 years, 9 months, and 16 days. Funeral services were held in the Brethren church of south Brooklyn, Iowa, conducted by Rev. J. O. Falley, of Chicago, assisted by J. L. Gillen, of Waterloo, Iowa. The remains were then laid to rest in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Nancy Jane Connell was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, in 1845, and was left an orphan when six years old. Her father and mother died just two weeks apart, and after their death she lived with her grandparents until her marriage in 1864, to Hiram H. Connell. To them were born eight children two of whom died in infancy and five sons and one daughter, with the husband, are left to mourn her loss. They commenced their married life in Kosciusko county, Indiana, where they lived one year, and from there they came to Poweshiek county, Iowa. In 1869 they moved to Lafayette county, Missouri, where they resided until 1876, when they moved back to Brooklyn, Iowa, and in 1883 they moved to Lincoln township, where she resided until death.

In 1870 she united with the German Baptist church, and in 1883 she was one of the six charter members who organized the Brethren church of south Brooklyn, of which she has been a consistent member until her death. She was ever ready to help build up the church of her choice and with her kindness and constant endeavor to do good toward others, she had endeared herself to all by whom she was surrounded, and she died with the blessed hope and assurance that those who lived a Christian life and serve the Lord will receive their reward in the realms of heaven, where the Lord has prepared a place for them that love him.
