MAXINE DAVIS, 79

E. Maxine Davis, 79, of Montezuma, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at the Montezuma Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Her funeral was Tuesday Feb. 23 at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma. The Rev. George M. Salnave of United Presbyterian Church officiated.

Rhonda Minner sang "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" accompanied by Kathleen Ramsey on the organ.

Casket bearers were Jerry Keith Davis II, John Davis, Scott Curry, Jay Davis, Mike Davis and Gary Curry.

Honorary casket bearers were Roger Smith, Art Kuntz, Cory Sperry, Wesley Clancy, Tim Leonard and James Davis.

Interment was in Union Mills Cemetery in Mahaska County.

Mrs. Davis was born Jan. 18, 1920 in Pleasanton, the daughter of Cecil Sherman and Harriet Sophia (Hursey) Duncan.

On Oct. 9, 1937, she married Arnold Davis in Oskaloosa. The couple had one daughter and two sons.

The family lived in the Montezuma area.

Mrs. Ferns?? worked at DeLong's Jacket Factory in Grinnell for 10 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Montezuma and also belonged to Vashti Rebekah Lodge and to Grange. She was also a homemaker and seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brohters, Howard and Evan Duncan and a half-sister, Alice Pemelton.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold; a daughter, Pat L. and her husband, Donald Mitchell of Weiser, Idaho; two sons and their wives, Jerry and Mary of Lee, Ill. and L. wayne and Donna of Montezuma; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Rollie Duncan of Grinnell and Gerald Duncan and wife Karen of Malcom; two sisters, Deloris and husband Robert Walter of Brooklyn and Erma Smith of Grinnell; other relatives and many friends.

A memorial has been established in her name.
