SERVICES HELDKermit K. Kloppenburg, 81, died of Alzheimer's disease Friday, Nov. 11, at St. Francis Manor.
Graveside services were conducted Monday at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley, Iowa. Pallbearers were Ken Kloppenburg, Chuck Brammer, Steve Fortmann, Brad Brammer, Jay Kloppenburg,
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Foundation and left at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
He was the son of John and Anna Stuhr Kloppenburg Jr. and was born Jan. 1, 1907, at Everly, Iowa. He was graduate of the Hartley public schools and attended Iowa State University in Ames.
On Aug. 13, 1932, he was married to Elma Maxine Wilson in South Dakota. The couple farmed for 36 years in Clay and O'Brien counties. Mr. Kloppenburg was an O'Brien County soil conservation commissioner for six years and was president of the Little Sioux Watershed. He organized and served as president of the O'Brien County Experimental Farm in association with Iowa State University for crop experimentation. He was active in the O'Brien County Farm Bureau, 4-H and FFA and was a member of the Kiwanis Club.
Mr. and Mrs. Kloppenburg retired to Duluth, Minn., in 1958 and spent their winters in California before moving to Hemet, Calif., in 1977. Due to failing health, he returned to Center Point, Iowa in 1984 and had been a resident of St. Francis Manor since 1986.
He is survived by his wife; two children, Kenneth of Center Point and Maxine Brammer of Grinnell; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a half-sister, Mary Linder of Hartley. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Annetta Wienke.
