Grant Dewey Butts, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Butts, was born at Brooklyn, Iowa, July 15, 1897, and departed this life at his home April 12, 1923.

He grew to manhood in Brooklyn and in growing, built up the wide circle of friends who mourn his death. It was here he attended school, took an active part in the athletics of the town, served with the fire company, and was a general favorite with the old as well as the young.

About eight months ago he went to Kansas City, where he had a splendid position with the Automotive Service Works. It was during his employment there that he contracted the dreaded disease that cost him his life. Little realizing the seriousness of his condition, he kept faithful at work until three months ago when he came home to rest, too late.

The spirit with which he bore his suffering and the gratitude he felt for the loving care given him during his illness, were most beautiful and inspired those who were fortunate enough to be with him during his last few weeks, to better things.

Thursday evening, as he realized that death was near, he called his dear ones to him, asked the blessings of God for them, and passed peacefully to his Maker.

Besides his father and mother, he leaves a brother, Dr. C. E. Butts, and a sister, Mrs. Lena Rieche.

The funeral services were conducted from the Butts home at 2:30 by he Rev. E. W. F. Holler, pastor of the Presbyterian church.
