Funeral Services Held for Anna Long

Funeral services for Miss Anna Long who died Saturday at her home near Malcom, were held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon from the home two miles east of Malcom. The Rev. D. F. Schroeder, pastor of the Montezuma Presbyterian church, conducted the rites. Interment was made at Ivy Hill cemetery, Malcom. H. F. Miller of Brooklyn sang “In the Garden” and “lead Kindly Light.”. Pallbearers were six nephews.

Following is the obituary:

Anna Rebecca Long was born in Scott township, Poweshiek county, April 20, 1876 and died at 2:15 o’clock December 19 aged 60 years, seven months and 29 days. She was the daughter of Andrew and Mary Ann Morrison Long, early pioneers of the county.

She attended the Montezuma schools and taught for a number of years in rural schools of the county. In June, 1910, she graduated from Iowa State Teachers college and later taught in the schools at Tipton and Mitchell, S. D. Because of her mother’s illness she was called home and remained as home-make for her brother on the death of the mother in 1926.

Her brother, Robert F. preceded her in death on May 12, 1936. She is survived by four brothers, John D. Long and James A. Long of Brooklyn, Iowa, Wm. B. Long of Montezuma, Iowa and Edwin B. Long of Sac City, Iowa; also six nephews, six nieces, four great nieces, three great nephews, and one aunt, Mrs. F. A. Buchiet of Davenport, Iowa.

Miss Long was a member of the Presbyterian church at Malcom, Iowa; and of the Deborah Rebecca and Order of Easter Star Lodges of Brooklyn, Iowa. She was a leader in farm bureau work in this township.

She was always ready to share in any educational work. She was ever pleasant, always cooperative, and a constant friend.
