MILDRED MANCE

Mildred L. Mance, 93, of the Mayflower died Sunday, Jan. 17, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Denison Chapel of the Mayflower, with the Revs. Daniel I. Ogata, pastor of the Malcom Presbyterian Church, and Michael Smith, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Grinnell, officiating. Pianists will be Norman Goodbrod and Barbara Lien, and vocalist will be Janet Alcorn.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Mayflower Health Building Project, Stewart Library or the Des Moines Metro Opera and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell 50112.

The daughter of Seymour and Fannie Deyo Leer, she was born Feb. 21, 1899, in Candor, N.Y. She was raised on a family farm near Candor and attended rural school She received her teaching certificate from Cortland Normal School, and following her education she taught in rural school.

In 1923 she moved to Long Island, N.Y., and received her B.S. degree from Columbia University in 1925. From 1925 to 1954 she taught mathematics at Woodmere Junior High School on Long Island.

On Nov. 25, 1946, she was married to Leroy Mance in Hewlett, N.Y. The couple lived on Long Island. Following her husband's death in 1956 she returned to Candor and worked in the Candor Public Library, also serving on the library's board of trustees. She moved to the Mayflower here in 1976.

Mrs. Mance was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grinnell and the Magna Carta Dames National Society.

There are no immediate survivors. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
