Jacob M. Snyder died at his home in north Brooklyn at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 1938 following a long illness.
He was born in Fayette County, Pa., on January 13, 1850. As a baby he was brought by his parents to Bakersville, Ohio and later to Port Washington, Ohio.
When he was 6 years old his parents came by train to Iowa City and by stage coach to Brooklyn. They settled here in 1856 and Mr. Snyder attended the first school here. He had lived in Brooklyn longer than anyone else living her now.
In 1870 he married Arminta Cain and to this union 3 boys and 2 girls were born. Those living are Edward, Mrs. Florence Talbott and Ernest all of Los Angeles, Simon and Mrs. Effie Helm preceded him in death. His wife died in 1917.
In 1920 he married Mrs. Sarah Oldfield of Canton, Ohio, who has been most faithful in her care of Mr. Snyder through many years of illness.
He is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Mary Herrell and Mrs. Jane Hawk and one brother, Will Snyder, all of Canton, Ohio.
Funeral arrangements had not been made Wednesday.
