PAULINE MCNABB

Pauline McNabb, 87, of Grinnell died Tuesday, June 5, 2007.

Memorial services for Pauline McNabb will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 15, at the Carman Center of the Mayflower home in Grinnell, and at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, at the Lebanon United Methodist Church in Lebanon, Iowa, with the Rev. Orlan Mitchell of the Mayflower and Deacon Diane Eberhard of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating at both services.
Music at the Carman Center will include Kyle Szary, pianist and Milton Severe, soloist; at Lebanon, Szary will play the organ. Honorary bearers will include her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery.

Born March 29, 1920, in Bonaparte, Iowa, she attended Centennial Rural School at Mt. Sterling and graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1937.

She married Verne Ebert Watson of Stockport, Iowa, on April 8, 1942. The couple had a son, Vincent J. Watson. Her husband died in an accident on a construction site at Cedar Rapids in 1947.

She worked at the Selective Service Board in Keosauqua, Iowa, where she met her second husband - Kenneth LaVerne McNabb of Troy - who she married Aug. 7, 1949. The couple lived on a farm north of Milton, Iowa, and had five children.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lebanon and served on its mission board. She was an active Farm Bureau member and chaired the Van Buren County Women's Farm Bureau for several years. She was also involved with her childrens' many 4-H projects.

In September of 1993, she purchased an efficiency apartment and moved to Mayflower Home in Grinnell. There, she chaired the mini-gift shop and served as a hall host and on the chapel committee, the flower garden committee and the stamp clippers. She enjoyed Monday nights of Trivial Pursuit with fellow Mayflower residents.

Among her volunteer activities at Grinnell Regional Medical Center she delivered flowers and mail. She was a member of the Grinnell State Bank Heritage Club and enjoyed travels with the group throughout the United States. Her passions included her family, tending flower gardens at the Mayflower, sewing and quilting.

She is survived by her children, Vincent Watson of Urbandale, Kathy Szary of Grinnell, Randy McNabb of Texhoma, Okla., Michael McNabb of Friendswood, Texas, and Kevin McNabb of Bellevue, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a step-great-grandchild; two sisters, Catherine Balmer and Genevieve Runyon of Bloomfield; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; both her husbands, and her son, Timothy McNabb.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Mayflower Health Care Center Activity Fund.
