LELA ADAMS SERVICES HELD

Funeral services for Lela R. Adams, 89, of 625 Spring St., who died Friday, June 4, at her home, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 7, at the Smith Funeral Home.

The Rev. L. Willard Reynolds officiated. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and vocalists were Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Sharp. Pallbearers were Chuck Ackerman, Chad Adams, Denny Adams, Marty Adams, Mitchell Adams, Matt Adams, Richard Corrick and Tim Thompson. Honorary bearers were George German, Barnett Latham, Harvey Mikel Jr., James H. Miller and George M. Wilson.

Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of William and Rebecca Foster Utley, she was born at Eddyville. On Nov. 29, 1909, she was married to Charles Hiram Adams at Albia. The couple farmed south of Grinnell and near Malcom before moving to Grinnell in 1921.

Mrs. Adams was a member of the Grinnell First Friends Church, the Women's Missionary Society of the church, the Daughters of Union Veterans, the W.C.T.U., the Grinnell Senior Citizens, the Grandmothers Club, the A.B.C. Club and the Happy Helping Hands Club. She was also an honorary member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Survivors include nine children, Beulah Corrick of Keswick, Leonard Adams of Richmond, Calif., Melvin Adams of Grinnell, Raymond Adams of Anaheim, Calif., Lucille Ackerman of Council Bluffs, Maxine Thompson of Grinnell, Virgil Adams of Kansas City, Mo., Kenneth Adams of Newburg and Clayton Adams of Normal, Ill.; 29 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1959; two daughters, Dorothy Louise at age 8 and Wanda Arlene in infancy; one grandson; three brothers, Roy, Guy and Ray Utley; and a sister, Iva Brown.
