Miss Mary Jane Tolman was born in Butler county, Ohio, August 31, 1831. She was married to William Kann August 20, 1848, in Berrien county, Mich. To them were born eight children of whom only two survive, James and Frank Kann. William Kann died in December, 1867; Thomas Doonan and Mary Jane Kann were married in 1871. They had one son, John W. Doonan, born in 1872.

Mrs. Mary Jane Doonan died May 3, 1921. Her funeral was held May 31, in Grace M.E. church, conducted by Dr. I. N. Busby, assisted by Rev. John W. Pool. Interment was made in I.O.O.F. cemetery.
