WAYNE F. FARNUM

Wayne F. Farnum, 69, of Brooklyn, died of cancer at his home on April 24, 2007.

A memorial service was held Thursday, April 26, at Smith Funeral Home in Victor. Memorials may be made to the Wayne F. Farnum Memorial Fund.

The son of Forest Stephen and Lena Stella Ueltzen Farnum, he was born Nov. 2, 1937, on the family farm in Warren Township near Victor. He was raised in the area and was a 1955 graduate of Victor High School. On Dec. 10, 1958, he was united in marriage with Charla J. Hewitt in Newton. The couple farmed a family farm in Warren Township until 1989 when they moved to their current farm north of Brooklyn. He had farmed for many years in Poweshiek County and raised purebred livestock.

He was active in development in Victor, including with the Iowa Department of Economic Development. He was a 4-H leader for many years and was active with the Poweshiek County Fairground, serving on its board of directors and as beef superintendent. He drove a school bus in the HLV school district; sold real estate in the area, and was an auctioneer.

He is survived by his wife, Charla of Brooklyn; three sons, Dave of Estherville, Don of Hammond, Ind., and Rob of Eddyville; two sisters, Thelma Goettsch and Esther Micili, both of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; three step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Donald in infancy.
