MRS. LILY SQUIRE

Mrs. Lily Louella Squire, 87, of 923 Center Street, died early Friday morning at a local hospital. She had been in failing health for some time.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester Custer, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Vocal music was provided by Gordon Van Donselaar, accompanied by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner at the organ.

Serving as pallbearers were Glenn Anderson, Harry Crowder, Virgil Doud, Bill French, (?son) Phillips and Webb Wallace. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.

The daughter of William and Margaret Tilton, she was born near Newburg on August 7, 1876. She attended the rural schools near her farm home.

On July 4, 1900, she was united in marriage with Arthur E. Squire at Newton. To this union were born three daughters, two of whom survive: Mrs. Clarence (Zelma) Doud, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. Ross (Florence) Swart, both of Grinnell.

Mr. and Mrs. Squire farmed in the Grinnell area until 1920 when they moved to Grinnell.

Survivors include her two daughters, nine grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Mrs. Vinton (Lola) Carmer; her husband, Arthur; and three brothers and three sisters.
