FUNERAL RITES AT
EWART SATURDAY

James Matchett, 77, of Ewart, died late Tuesday evening at a Grinnell hospital following an illness and hospitalization of the past month.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Ewart Presbyterian church with the Rev. Glenn R. Dieken, pastor of the Presbyterian churchs in Montezuma and Ewart, officiating. Vocal music will be provided by Arthur Goeke Jr., accompanied by Mrs. Glenn Dieken at the organ.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Arnaman, Kenneth Haworth, W.E. Hamilton, Paul McConnell, Craig Stanley and James Van Arkel. Burial will be in Pleasant Township cemetery at Ewart. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.

He was the son of William and Isabella Mary Cleland Matchett and was born southwest of Ewart on Mar. 16th, 1889. His entire life was spent on farms in the Ewart area until he moved with his brother in 1953 to a home in Ewart.

He was a member of the Ewart Presbyterian church and had served his church and community in many lay activities. When the church was built, Mr. Matchett was responsible for donating the church bell.

Survivors include his brother, John of Ewart; a sister, Mrs. Oscar (Matilda) Lawson of Searsboro. Also surviving are three nephews, William Lawson of Sioux City, Ted Lawson of Manitou Springs, Colo,. and Paul Lawson of Amarillo, Tex.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1937, his mother in 1942, and a brother in infancy.
