Miss Jennie S. Marmon was born in Zanesfield, Logan Co., Ohio, April 12, 1849. She was the youngest child of Robert and Sarah J. Marmon, to whom were born, beside herself, two sons, James Y. and Gustavus F. and one daughter, Eliza.

When our deceased sister was but six months of age, her father departed this life, and when she was 18 years old her mother died. Jennie spent her nearly life at her old home, enjoying the privilege of its schools and became a successful kindergarden teacher. Her mother being an invalid for several years previous to her death, this daughter, Jennie, cared for and nursed her with most tender affection. After her mother’s death, she made her home with her sister, Eliza Adair, spending a part of the time with her oldest brother, until his decease 18 years ago. She was a natural and gifted nurse and for the past fourteen years has given herself to the alleviation of the suffering of others. Had she been old enough she would most gladly have become an army nurse in the Civil war.

When 16 years of age she joined the M. E. Church in which her membership continued. She was an excellent Sunday School teacher and a faithful worker in the church, but because of her duties among the sick she was very much denied the privileges of the house of God. Of Quaker ancestry and teaching she was inclined to be quiet and retiring in spirit, trusting not in her own merit for safety but in Christ.

She passed away at the home of her sister Eliza Adair aged 55 years, 1 month and 25 days.

Her requests were observed in regard to the funeral, the ministers of the place and the Eastern Star and Rebekahs participating, with special music by the choir of her church in which the services were held. She was buried in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
