HENRY SELLE

Henry Selle was born in Germany, state of Brandenburg, near Padlebarch in 1832 March 20. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. In 1857 he was married to Mary Ganswig. They came to this country the same year and resided in Cook county, Ill. In 1867 they came to Iowa. They settled on his farm in Washington twp. To them were born ten children, three of whom died years ago, his wife died May 6, 1903.

On June 20, 1880, he received a sun stroke of so severe a character that it affected his brain and his mind became deranged. He was taken to the hospital at Mt. Pleasant Sept. 19, following, where he died January 30th, '07. The following children survive him: Mrs. Jahnke of Chicago, Herman C., of Grinnell, Ruth F., Wm. H., of Grinnell, Anna L. of Wellington, Colo.; Mrs. Frank Brenniman of Ft. Collins, Colo.; and Mrs. Marie Chambers of Grinnell. All but one daughter Miss Anna from Wellington, Colo. were present at the funeral. Short services were held at the home of Mrs. Chambers, yesterday afternoon by Rev. J.M. McClelland then the body was taken to Westfield where it was laid to rest in the Westfield cemetery.
