HERMAN SELLE
FUNERAL HELD

Funeral services for Herman Selle, 71, who died at the St. Francis hospital Friday morning were held Sunday afternoon. A short service was held at the Snyder chapel at 1:15 o'clock and then at the Westfield church at 2:30. Rev. Arnold Thalacker officiated. Burial was in Westfield cemetery.

Herman Selle was born in Palestine, Cook county, Illinois. When four years of age he moved to Iowa with his parents. They first located on a farm three miles south of Westfield where Mr. Selle grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Sarah Schmidt of Westfield and to this union four children were born: William, who died in infancy, Henry Selle who lives on a farm just west of the city, Lewis Selle, who made his home with his parents and Minnie Selle Thomas, deceased.

For four years he lived in Grinnell where he operated a feed store and was engaged in the carpenter business and then he moved back to a farm near Oak Grove where he resided until 1913. That year he moved to Mason City where he lived for seven years, returning to Grinnell to make his home until death.

Mr. Selle for many years was an enthusiastic member of the Odd Fellows lodge. He had many friends in Grinnell and community who knew him as an upright and honest man and he held the sincere respect of everyone who knew him.
