CLOYD M. CARL, 81

Cloyd M. Carl, 81, of Montezuma, Ia., died Thursday, Oct. 13, 1994 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Ia.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, 1994, at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma. Rev. Brian Carter, United Methodist Church, Montezuma, officiated the services. Miss Alice Underwood was organist with music selection of "How Great Thou Art." Honorary casket bearers were his grandchildren Shane Carl, Kevin Carl, Anthony Carl, Scott Carl, Kerri Carl and Olivia Harper. Casket bearers were Don Gregory, Allen Gregory, Vincent Johnson II, Dick Gregory, Brent James and Will Henkle. Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma. Military graveside rites were given by Blakley-Stevens Legion Post No. 169.

Cloyd was born Oct. 16, 1912 at Deep River, Ia., the son of Henry F. and Anna L. Johnson Carl. He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1932. He served in the Army/Airforce for three and one-half years during World War II. On June 5, 1951 he was united in marriage with Frances Seaborg at Montezuma. To this union a son and daughter were born. They farmed near Montezuma for several years before moving into town in March 1980. He was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church, Blakley-Stevens American Legion Post No. 169 and V.F.W. Post No. 876.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Henry Carl and Elmer Carl; and three sisters: Alice Smith, Esther Hartzell and Edna Burdine.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; son, Lynn and his wife, Annette of Montezuma, daughter Jan Carl and husband, Eugene Harper of Arvada, Colorado; six grandchildren: Shane, Scott, Kevin, Kerri and Anthony Carl and Olivia Jan Harper; one sister, Melba Swanson of Montezuma; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Montezuma High School band department.
