*James Frederick Affolter passed away at his home in South Brooklyn Tuesday morning, May 5th, following a lingering illness.
He was born December 12, 1844, in Switzerland, and came to this country when about thirteen years of age.
After working for awhile in Pittsburgh, Pa., he moved on to Columbus, Ohio. He was married to Marie Richenbacher of that place, who later passed away. On July 1, 1886, he was married to Mrs. Mable Orr of Brooklyn. He had been farming near Brooklyn until six years ago when he moved into Brooklyn to retire.
He is survived by his wife, on brother, Alfred Affolter of Switzerland, one son, Fred Affolter of Kadoka, S. Dak., two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Fair of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Elizabeth McFarland of Cottage Grove, Ore., besides six step-children and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with burial at the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Rev. W. J. Fowler of the M.E. Church had charge of the services.

This original obituary contained many errors. Name was *John Frederick Affolter, not James. He had two previous marriages before his marriage to Mabel (Layng) Orr. First marriage was to Katherine Richembachor. Second marriage was to Elizabeth Walters and third wife was Mabel (Layng) Orr. Mabel Orr Affolter was my Gt-Gt-Grandmother.
