Marjorie Jean Scandrett, 79, of Sandy, Ore., formerly of Grinnell, died Friday, May 17, at a Portland hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The daughter of Milton E. and Clera Dillman Scandrett, she was born Jan. 17, 1923, in Franklin, Ind. She was raised in Grinnell and was a 1941 graduate of Grinnell High School. She earned a B.A. degree at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and an M.A. degree at the University of Iowa. She taught art in the Des Moines schools for several years.
In 1958, she began her overseas career, teaching art and history in Germany, Italy, France, Belgium and, for 10 years, in England. She retired in 1983 and made her home in Gresham, Ore., and Welches, Ore., prior to moving to Sandy in 1998.
She was a member of the Hoodland Women's Club, the Gresham Branch of the American Association of University Women and the League of Women Voters.
She is survived by two brothers, Dean Scandrett of San Antonio, Texas and Robert Scandrett of Tucson, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dillman Scandrett; and one sister, Ruth Cox.
