FUNERAL SERVICES
CODNUCTED TODAYMrs. Sarah Fannie Alexander, 79, of Grinnell, wife of John Alexander, died Saturday evening at a local hospital following an illness of the past two weeks.
Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Shireman, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.
Pallbearers were Ed McNally, Jim McNally, Fred Weber, Will Osborn, Perry Wilson and Albert Schinckel. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.
She was born August 21, 1883, at Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Stephen C. and Roseann Hurt Dobbs, one of a family of 10 children. When she was three years of age, the family moved to Kentucky where she received her education, and later on December 10, 1913 was united in marriage with John Wesley Alexander.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Alexander is survived by a son, Otha Marvin Alexander of Grinnell; one grandchild; and 2 great grandchildren; and 7 brothers and sisters, Mrs. Math (Lola) Hurt, Mrs. Willie (Lura) Blevins and Frank and Berry Dobbs, all of Kentucky; Edmond Dobbs of Grinnell; Hubert Dobbs of Searsboro; and Mrs. Neal (Ollie) Barbary of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
In 1915 Mr. and Mrs. Alexander moved from Kentucky to Kellogg. In 1922, they moved to Grinnell to make their home. Mrs. Alexander was a member of the Baptist faith.
