LARRY R. GUCKERT

Larry R. Guckert, 61, of Grinnell died Monday, July 12, 2004, at the family farm near Rhodes.

A funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown with the Rev. Bernie Grady, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Rhodes with military honors by the Rhodes American Legion Post #456. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown where a public scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.

He was born Jan. 2, 1943, in Marshalltown, the son of Lawrence and Thelma Doser Guckert. He was raised and educated in Rhodes, graduating from its high school in 1960. He attended Marshalltown Community College for two years, then Iowa State University in Ames from which he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was married on Nov. 3, 2001, in Grinnell to Patricia Collum and they resided in Grinnell. He was a member of the Rhodes American Legion and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown.

He is survived by his wife; his mother; four grandchildren; one brother Danny of Conrad and one sister Joyce Guckert of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by his father.
