GEORGIA RYDEL

Georgia Rydel, 66, of 1030 East St., Grinnell, died of cancer Monday, Feb.3, at University of California - San Francisco Medical Center, Long Hospital in San Francisco.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lon Lewis officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and the Grinnell Senior Citizens Kitchen Band also performed. Casket bearers were Rod Boggess, John Brayton, Duane Dufoe, Gary Kinney, Geoffrey Peak and Jim White. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was the daughter of Leroy James and Dorothy Eunice Warner Boyd and was born July 8, 1930, at Sioux City. The family moved to Las Animas, Colo., where she was raised and graduated from high school. She later graduated from Simpson College, Indianola.

She was married to John Rydel July 20, 1952, at Las Animas. The family lived in Onawa, Clarinda and Clear Lake before moving to Grinnell in 1973. Mrs. Rydel was nutrition director for the Grinnell Senior Citizens Center. She retired in 1984. She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are two sons, J. Boyd of Omaha and Russell of San Francisco; one daughter, Robin Hall of Greeley, Colo.; her mother; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and her husband.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to her church or the Senior Citizens Center.
