DOWNING, Darrell D. 1902 – 1918

Darrell D. Downing was born in Moline, Ill., Aug. 27, 1902. His death occurred at the home of an aunt in Moline at 8:37 o’clock in the evening, Oct. 21, 1918, aged 16 years, 1 month and 24 days. When he was a child at the age of 5 he was consecrated to God in Holy Baptism by the Rev. George H. Wehn, pastor at the Methodist church at their home in Ill. In the spring of 1914 he came with his parents, brothers and sisters to Brooklyn, Iowa. He attended the public school and was one year in high school. At the time of his death he was attending Brown’s Business College in Moline, and was employed on the Goot Engineering Fleet at Davenport. He was a member of the American Federation of Labor. He leaves to mourn his passing his parents, two brothers, Raymond and George, two sisters, Edna and Grace.

The body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Brooklyn. A brief service was conducted at the grave by Rev. John W. Pool, pastor at the Methodist church at Brooklyn.
