BILL BEHRENS DIES AT 87
William Dietrich Behrens was born Nov. 20, 1878 in Dayton twp., Iowa county. His parents were Henry and Anna Behrens. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Lutheran, Lincoln twp., where he was a life-long member. In this congregation he held offices of elder and chairman.
On April 2, 1902, Mr. Behrens was united in marriage with Mary Rank. They made their home near the Behrens parental home, rearing their family on the farm.
Behrens was active in civic affairs, holding the office of trustee in the township. He was well known in the community as a cattle buyer for more than 50 years.
Behrens suffered ill health for a number of years, and recently failed rapidly. He died Dec. 9.
His wife, Mary, preceded him in death April 7, 1959. Survivors are his children, George of Deep River; Walter of Williamsburg; Mrs. Henry (Mabel) Weichman of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. M. Louis Schultz of Deep River; Marie Behrens, Iowa City; Mrs. Fred (Ella) Keiper of Palo; Mrs. Erwin (Minnie) Maas of Williamsburg; Mrs. Henry (Florence) Nabor of Muscatine; Henry of Deep River; Carl of Minot, N.D.; and Mrs. Ted (Margaret) Bohstedt of Victor; one brother, Henry, of Williamsburg; 16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren.
His parents, wife, five sisters, Mrs. Mary Rauch, Mrs. Louise Tanke, Katherine, Minnie, Anna and one brother, John, preceded him in death.
Services were at St. John's Dec. 11 with Rev. E. Weiss officiating. Burial was in St. John's cemetery, beside his wife. Casket bearers were Lacey Doty, Wilbur Ebel, Clint Icenbice, William Jahlas Sr., Herbert Timmerman and Farrell Johnson.
