RITES HELD FOR
MRS. CAREYJeannette Carey, 93, of St. Francis Manor, formerly of Gilman, died Sunday, Jan. 26, at Grinnell General Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Laurel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Cassiday, pastor of the Gilman Community Church, officiating. Organist was Janice Everts.
Pallbearers were Christopher Lee Carey, Jeffrey Mohler Carey, Matthew James Carey, Russell Paul McMinn, William Terje Mott and Donald Starnes. Honorary bearers were Gilbert Ingraham, T.S. Weaver, Talamon Weaver and D. Russell Paul. Burial was in the Methodist Cemetery near Laurel with the Smith Funeral Home of Grinnell in charge of arrangements.
The daughter of William and Ida Schemerhorn Ingraham, she was born on Jan. 16, 1893, at Laurel. She was raised and educated in the Laurel area.
On Sept. 25, 1917, she was married to Lee Carey at Marshalltown. The couple farmed near Laurel. Mr. Carey died in 1936, and Mrs. Carey moved to Gilman. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Laurel and had taught Sunday School at the Community Church in Gilman.
She is survived by her children, Genevieve Weaver of Gilman, Dwight L. Carey of Grinnell, Grace McMinn of St. Louis, Mo., Marcia Mott of Bloomfield, Mich., and Robert Carey of Ames; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Charles, Fred, Chalmer, Wes and Lorenzo; and three sisters, Charity McIlrath, Grace Paul and Alta Starnes.
