CARNOT THOMAS DIES IN SEATTLE

Carnot H. Thomas, 76, of Seattle, Wash., formerly of Grinnell, died Nov. 8 in Seattle, it has been announced.

Death came following a three-month illness, and he was entombed Nov. 11 at Forest Lawn Mausoleum in Seattle.

The son of Charles H. and Jamima A. Thomas, he was born Sept. 9, 1906, at Kent, Iowa. He was a graduate of Creston High School and attended Iowa State College, where he majored in chemical engineering. He was a member of Theta Xi and Pi Epsilon Pi.

Upon returning to Creston, he was employed in his father's store, Creston Hardware. He was married to Lillian Marguerite Starry on June 4, 1927. He was a member of United Commercial Travelers and Crest City Lodge No. 522, A.F. & A.M., in Creston.

In 1945, he sold his interest in the family hardware store and moved to Seattle, where he worked as a salesman for the J.A. Clemans Real Estate Agency. He moved to Grinnell in 1950 when he purchased the Thomas Hardware Department Store.

Mr. Thomas sold the hardware store in 1953 and returned to Seattle where he purchased the J.A. Clemans Insurance Agency. He was a member of the West Seattle Rotary. He also owned the West Seattle Escrow Co. and was active in the Millionaire Club Charity, Inc. He retired in 1971.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Lillian; two sons, Charles E. and Carnot H. Thomas Jr.; and five grandchildren.
