Funeral For Mrs. Sackett Saturday

Pneumonia Causes Death on December 23 at Her Home

Mary Baird youngest child of John and Francis Baird was born at Preemption, Ill., Nov. 12, 1858 and departed this life at her home near Brooklyn, Iowa, Dec. 23, 1936 at the age of 78 years, one month, 11 days.

Of seven children, she is the fifth to pass on to the better world. Those remaining are Mrs. C. B. Harry of Plymouth, Ia., and Robert Baird of Montezuma.

Shortly after her marriage to Frank Sackett in 1996 they moved to a farm in Scott township; a few years later they moved to the farm where she spent the remaining 43 years of her life. Her husband preceded her in death 14 years. To this union were born John and Scott who have both been living with her on the farm. In addition she made a home for a motherless child, Ina Kingsley, who lived with them until grown. Also her granddaughter, Verna Sackett was left in her care at the age of two weeks, at the death of her mother. Verna grew to young womanhood in the home and has faithfully and lovingly cared for her grandmother during two years of ill health.

While a young girl she became a member of the Methodist church at Fairmont and was a faithful attendant at services.

She has been in failing health for some time and Monday she contracted pneumonia which she was unable to withstand, passing to the Eternal Life Wednesday evening at 9:30.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Methodist church with the Rev. Barnstable in charge. The pall bearers, Irv Patten, Earl Carter, John W. Johnston, Charlie Baird, Richard Johnston and Elver Goodlow are nephews of the deceased. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
