EDGAR EUGENE RAFFETY

Esther Ellen Fisher was born at Chester Center, Poweshiek county, Iowa, Jan. 24, 1904. She was the oldest daughter of Eugene W. and Emma Fisher. Her childhood was spent on the Chester farm. In 1919, after the death of her father, the family moved to Grinnell, where Esther graduated from the high school in 1921 and from Grinnell college in 1925. After her graduation from college she taught two years in Hamburg, Iowa.

Sept. 1, 1927, she was married to Lloyd G. Raffety of Iowa Falls, and the family home has been in that city.

Mrs. Raffety had suffered from an attack of the prevailing influenza which developed into pneumonia in connection with her recent sickness. Last Sunday a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Raffety and Mrs. Raffety's death occurred Monday evening at 10 o'clock. On Wednesday morning the infant son, Edgar Eugene, followed his mother in death and rests in her arms.

Esther was a happy young woman, who made friends wherever she was known. She was a devoted wife and mother, active in the best interests of the community in which she lived.

Mrs. Raffety leaves to mourn her loss her companion in marriage, her four year old daughter, Barbara Jane, her mother, Mrs. Emma Fisher of Grinnell, two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Martin of Cedar Rapids and Miss Dorothy Fisher of Chicago, and many other relatives and friends.

Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock a short funeral service was held in Iowa Falls, conducted (by) Rev. C.E. Cushman, her pastor. The body was then taken to the old home church in Chester Center where relatives and friends gathered for a service conducted by Rev. H.L. Wissler, the officiating minister at Esther's wedding.

Pall bearers were Ernest Raffety, Earl Van Riper, Gaylord Dempster, Keith Dempster, Roscoe Dempster and Howard Martin, all close relatives.
