DELORES JOHNSON

Delores (Dee) Johnson, 72, of Grinnell, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at her home of heart failure.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Len Eberhart, pastor of Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Honorary bearers were Mandy Mott, Jill Cook, J.D. McGrew, Stacy Bullock, Ashley Groves, Curtis and Steffanie Sieck, Brad Johnson, Amy and Ali Braaksma and Sam and Adam Carlton. Memorials may be made to the Dee Johnson Memorial Fund.

She was born Sept. 29, 1933, in Grinnell, the daughter of Silas and Irene Stout Holland. She received her education in the Grinnell schools and was married on Aug. 25, 1964, in Fairmont, Minn., to Curtis Johnson. They resided in Grinnell and she was employed for over 30 years as a waitress in several Grinnell restaurants including Model Lunch, McCurry's Cafe and the Skel Diner, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Grinnell Eagles Lodge and the Women's Bowling Association.

She is survived by her husband Curtis of Grinnell; seven children, Cindy Downs of Montour, Pam Mott of Iowa Falls, Kay Abernathey of Grinnell, Jo Carlton of Dows, Richard Clubb of Cedar Rapids and Kim Johnson and Kris Sieck of Grinnell; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Rosie Jeffries and Betty Pickens; one brother, Silas (Pete) Holland, and two grandchildren Robert James Bullock III and Jamie Bullock.
