JOSEPHINE JONES

Alice Josephine Jones, 93, of Grinnell died Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Mayflower Health Care Center.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the United Church of Christ-Congregational, with the Rev. Bob Molsberry officiating. Organist was John Stuhr-Rommereim, and pallbearers were Stephen F. Jones, Karen Maxwell Terpstra, David A. Jones, Charles E. Bethel, Catherine Maxwell Bratek, John D. Bethel, F. Austin Jones, Anne Bethel Pederson and Susan M. Bethel.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Clinton Bovery and Jenny Skinner Zollinger, she was born June 25, 1903, in Vinton. She moved with her family to Cedar Rapids and was a 1921 graduate of Cedar Rapids High School. She attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, graduating in 1925. She then taught school at Bagley.

She was married to Fred A. Jones Jan. 1, 1927, in Des Moines, and the couple lived in Tama before moving to Grinnell in 1940.

Mrs. Jones was active in the Grinnell United Church of Christ-Congregational, and she was a director emeritus of Grinnell State Bank. She was also a member of PEO Chapter BM, the Priscilla Club and Ottawosias. She was active with the Grey Ladies for several years and had volunteered at the V.A. facilities in Knoxville and Marshalltown.

Surviving are her children, Florence Maxwell of Hilton Head Island, S.C., F. Addison Jones of Grinnell and Esther Bethel of Grinnell; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Florence Ferguson.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to her church or the Mayflower.
