LUCILLE ANTHONY

Lucille H. Anthony, 81, of Grinnell died Saturday, Aug. 23, at Friendship Manor Care Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Loren Spellman and Dean Swenson officiating. Organist will be Diane Harper, and vocalists will be Jim Goodlaxen, Bonnie Myers and Joy Vybiral. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

The daughter of James P. and Elizabeth Houseman McIlrath, she was born Jan. 28, 1916, in Newburg, where she was raised and graduated from high school in 1934. She received her teacher's certificate from Cedar Falls teachers College and taught for several years in Poweshiek County.

She was married to Earl Anthony June 14, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo. The couple farmed in Poweshiek County for several years before moving to a farm in Jasper County in 1951.

Mrs. Anthony was a member of the Hickory Grove Farm Bureau Women's Club and a member of a non-denominational church since 1932.

Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Beth Thomas of Kearney, Mo; one son, Dale of Indianola; one brother, Harley McIlrath of Grinnell; one sister, Mabel Tharp of Grinnell; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters and one half-sister.
