SUCCUMBS TO
ILLNESS FRIDAY

Sarah Adkins of Grinnell, the widow of Charles E. Adkins, died Friday evening at a local hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday from the Smith Funeral Home with Dr. Leland W. Mann of the Congregational church officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Rhee Auman.

Pallbearers will be Horace Adkins, Verlin Adkins, John Peters, James Phipps, Sam Ragan, and Raymond See. Burial will be in Rock Creek cemetery west of Grinnell.

The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Turner and was born July 29, 1875, in Wayne County, Ky. She came to the Grinnell area 53 years ago form Kentucky, receiving her education in the Jasper county school system.

Born to her and her husband were nine children: Harvey of Park Ridge, Ill.; Mrs. Lee (Lucinda) Bridges of Tullahoma, Tenn.; Mrs. Q.C. (Mima) Guthrie of Culver City, Calif.; G. LeRoy of Searsboro; Avery T. of Grinnell; C. Adelbert of Marion; Mrs. Robert (Wilma) Griffith of Garden City, N.Y.; Lloyd J. of Washington; and Juanita Inez Adkins, who died when young.

Survivors include 24 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, three half-brothers and two half-sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, and one sister, Mrs. R.H. Adkins.

Mrs. Adkins was a member of the Congregational church and belonged to the Order of Eastern Star, Legion Auxiliary, of which she was a past president, and the Woman's Fellowship of the Congregational church.
