MRS. M.E. SHACKLADY

Maria Elizabeth Himes was born in Berlin, N.Y., July 1, 1830. At the age of nine years she moved with her parents to Monroe, N.Y., and later to Troy, where she grew to womanhood, and spent the greater part of her life.

She was the last of a family of eight children, the youngest being the late Mrs. Linus Quivey. Early in life she united with the Methodist church of Troy. In 1868 she became the wife of Christopher W. Shacklady, who preceded her to the better world in 1892.

Mrs. Shacklady was a kind friend to all who knew her, and her greatest pleasure in life was in doing for others. Several years after the death of her husband Mrs. Shacklady came to Grinnell to live with her nephews and nieces. February 2, she passed away at the home of her nephew, B.W. Quivey, heart trouble being the cause of her death. The body was taken to Troy, N.Y., and laid to rest by the side of Mr. Shacklady.
