MRS. HANS FREESE
PASSES IN MALCOM

Catharine Johana Fischer was born in Holstein, Germany, November 11, 1858. She was united in marriage with Mr. Hans Freese Oct. 27, 1878. To this union, twelve children were born, Henry John of Marshalltown, Iowa; Caroline Marie Pyle of Malcom, Iowa; Charles Christian died August 18, 1911; Anna Elizabeth Kelm of Malcom, Iowa; Ida Dorathea Eisele, of Malcom, Iowa; William Frederick of Burt, Iowa; Louis Theodore, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Elizabeth Minnie Melbourne (Milburn), of Malcom, Iowa John Herman of Des Moines, Iowa; Frank Walter of Malcom, Iowa; Delmar August of Toledo, Iowa; and Elmer Otto, who died at the age of one year.

There were twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-three living.

She was baptized in childhood and confirmed in girlhood in the German Lutheran church.

She remained an earnest, consistent member until her translation. Mr. and Mrs. Freese left the fatherland in 1881; arriving at Montezuma, Iowa, May the 16th of that year. They resided on their farm in Bear Creek township until eleven years ago, when they moved to Malcom where they have resided ever since. She was taken sick about a year ago and has never been well since. While she has been in ill health and endured much suffering all this while she was patient and cheerful and never complained. She was taken seriously sick Tuesday morning, January 19, with a stroke following with another stroke Monday, January 25, which caused her sudden death, at the age of 67 years, 2 months and 14 days.

Blessed are they that died in the Lord.

The six sons acted as pallbearers. The funeral services were held by her former pastor, O.C. Biermann, assisted by Rev. E. Aukerman Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Presbyterian church of Malcom, January 28. Interment was made at the Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom, Iowa.
