MRS. NORTON RITES TUESDAY

Margaret E. Norton, 83, of 823 East St., Grinnell, died Tuesday morning, July 22, at St. Francis Manor.

Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the Grinnell United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiating.

Memorials in Mrs. Norton's name may be made to St. Francis Manor and left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Robert and Florence Graham Swetnam, she was born on May 21, 1903, in Moncton, N.B., Canada. She received her B.A. degree from Dalhousie University at Halifax, N.S., Canada.

On Aug. 6, 1929, she was married to Robert Homer Norton at Moncton. After living for one year at Regina, Sask., the couple came to Grinnell where Mr. Norton joined the Grinnell College history faculty.

Mrs. Norton was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, the Tuesday Club, and the Historical and Literary Club.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Robert E. Norton, M.D., of Phoenix, Ariz., John F. Norton of Northampton, Mass., and Neil Dewar Norton of Rock Island, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, two brothers and one sister.
