Funeral services for Mrs. Sidney Adkins, who died Tuesday as a result of a stroke of paralysis suffered several days ago were held from the Primitive Baptist church conducted by Rev. Robert Keeton Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. She was 85 years of age.

Sidney Jane Parmley, daughter of Washington and Betsy Parmley, was born in Wayne County, Kentucky, Jan. 22, 1845 and departed from this life May 6, 1930, at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 14 days. She was the last surviving member of a family of ten children.

She was united in marriage to James Franklin Adkins on Oct. 7, 1866, in Wayne County, Ky. Soon after her marriage they came to Iowa where they settled near Kellogg. Nine children were born to this union, eight of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Mary Alice Rice of Mobridge, S. Dak., Mrs. Florence A. Dearinger of Walhalla, N. Dak., Robert H., Fred M., Dr. Louis M., Mrs. Gertrude Reutter, and Mrs. Geneva Ahrens all of Grinnell. The ninth child, now deceased, was Mrs. Alta A. Matteson.

Later, they moved to a farm three miles west of town, now owned by Henry Ahrens, living here 29 years. In the fall of 1905 they went to California where they spent the winter and upon their return moved to Grinnell.

Her husband preceded her in death six years ago.

She was a kind and loving mother, sympathetic and helpful. Thirty years ago she united with the Primitive Baptist church and has always lived a true conscientious Christian life.

Besides her immediate family she leaves to mourn her loss, thirty grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
