Adkins, James Francis, b. Jul 30, 1844, s/o Benjamin and Rachel (Williams) oldest of family of 9, b. near Monticello, KY in Wayne Co, KY. His grandfather, Benjamin and his wf, Katie Stockwell Adkins, were among the first settlers of KY making a long journey from NC with one of Daniel Boone's parties. Two of his ggrandfather's sisters were killed by the Indians on this journey. They came to IA after Civil War in Aug 1865. Later went back to KY for his bride Sidney Jane Parmley in 1866. They lived in Kellogg, IA. Nine children survive-JasFrancis Adkins; Mrs. Mary Rice, Florence A. Pearinger, William, Robert R., Fred M, Dr. Louis M., Mrs. Gertrude Raytter and Mrs. Geneva Ahrens, He celebrated his golden wedding on Oct 7, 1916 and his aged mother was there. Died Sep 27, 1924.
