JOHN CAUGHEY

John Caughey was born in Ireland Feb. 8, 1844, and departed this life Sept. 30, 1912, aged 68 years, 7 months and 22 days.

He came to America when he was a young man. On December 23, 1873, he married Alice Angus at Coal Valley, Ill. To this union were born six children, five of whom died in infancy. One son, John M., and the wife and mother, two sisters and other relatives and friends are left to mourn the loss of the departed.

Mr. and Mrs. Caughey came to Iowa about 28 years ago and settled on the home place near Malcom. About four years ago they came to Grinnell where they resided at the time of his death.

About 28 years years ago Mr. Caughey joined the United Presbyterian church near Guernsey. He was quiet and unassuming in manner, strictly honest and a good neighbor and friend.

For more than a year he has been afflicted with cancer of the stomach. Much of this time his suffering has been intense. He bore it all with remarkable patience and fortitude and waited longingly for the coming of his Lord. At last on Monday forenoon he quietly fell asleep.

Funeral services were held at the old home near Malcom, Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 11 o'clock. Rev. W.W. Woodburn was in charge. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Montezuma.
