JOE EARL LEER

Funeral services for Joe Leer of Deep River were held Sunday afternoon, May 20, at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma.

Officiating was Rev. Eugene Strohs, Calvary Lutheran Church, Deep River. Two selections, "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art" were sung by Mrs. Cecil Rauch and Ed Van Doorn. Organist was Mrs. Melvin Roberts.

Casketbearers were Jim Leer, John Leer, Darryl Leer, Doug Gregson, Kenny Gregson, Wayne Gregson. Interment was in Golden Rod Cemetery, Deep River.

Joe Earl Leer, son of Alfred and Hattie Boblett Leer, was born January 16, 1927 in Vernon County, Missouri and passed away May 17, 1984 at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City at 57 years of age.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked construction and as a farm laborer before operating a salvage business in Deep River. On Aug. 8, 1968 he was united in marriage with Evelyn Rauch at Dayton, Ia.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Deep River; six children: Joe Earl, Alfred, Diane, Linda, Barbara and Patrick. Five step-children: Sheldon, Robert and Roger Gregson and Patricia Snook all of Montezuma and Janice Snook of Maquoketa, Ia.; four grandchildren; 16 step grandchildren: Junior and George Leer of Metz, Mo., and Dave Leer of Rich Hill, Mo.; two sisters: Thelma of Pittsburg, Kan., and Billie Fe?? of Colorado; half brothers: Albert Leer of Keswick and Earnest Leer of Casper, Wyo., and a half sister: Myrtle of Indiana.
