MARY CAROL EARLEY, 71

Carol Earley, 71, of Montezuma, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at her daughter's home in Marengo. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home. Interment was in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the family's name.

Mary Carol Earley was born in Chicago, Ill., on Dec. 25, 1937, the daughter of Robert and Lois Bauman Sutfin. She attended school in Chicago. On March 31, 1956, she was united in marriage to Gordon Earley. She took pride in being a military wife, mother and grandmother. After her husband's retirement from the Marine Corp, the couple moved to Malcom where they opened the Pour House Bar and Grill. Carol and Gordon moved to Missouri where she managed multiple apartment complexes.

Carol was a caring, selfless person who always gave to those in need, even if it meant doing without. She believed strongly in supporting various causes including veteran's organizations and children's causes. Her grandson has fond memories of traveling the countryside with grandma in the spring to look at newborn calves.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Edna Sutfin; two grandchildren, Timothy Davis and Tiffany Earley; and a brother-in-law, Al White.

She is survived by her husband, Gordon Earley; four sons, Gordon Earley Jr. of Rochester, Minn., Cary (Jan) Earley of Guernsey, Brian (Brenda Dunham) Earley, of Grinnell, and Brent (Ann) Earley of Davenport; three daughters, Lisa (Greg) Lee of Cedar Rapids, Michelle (Fran) Roth of Marengo, and Laura Earley of Montezuma; daughter-in-law, Christy Earley of Montezuma, and Paul Sutfin of the Quad Cities; five sisters, Marie Haggerty of Lyons, Ill., Barbara (Jim Smith) Whisenand of Brooklyn, Helen White of Huntley, Ill., Kathleen (John) Fiorito of Florida, and Theresa Chartrand of Chicago, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren, with twins on the way.
