MRS. RUTH M. SCROGGS

Ruth M. Scroggs, 88, of Grinnell and formerly of Des Moines, died on Friday, April 6, 2012, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

A service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Glendale Cemetery, 4909 University Avenue in Des Moines with Rev. Dr. Ken Arentson, Associate Pastor of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Should friends desire memorials in Ruth's name may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Des Moines or to St. Francis Manor of Grinnell and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O .Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Ruth was born on July 6, 1923, in Brooklyn, Iowa to Cecil and Eva Fraser Brannian. She was raised in Brooklyn and graduated with the Class of 1940 from Brooklyn High School. She moved to Des Moines and attended the Capital City Commercial College. Following her education she worked as an administrative assistant at the former Iowa-Des Moines National Bank (now Wells Fargo).

On June 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to John R. Scroggs in Des Moines. The couple were the parents of one son, Craig. She was a homemaker and worked as a secretary for an insurance company in Des Moines. Ruth and John enjoyed traveling, especially to Colorado.

Ruth was a long-time member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines.

Those left to honor her memory are her daughter-in-law, Toni DeAngelis of Des Moines; one sister, Rhea (Raymond) Light of Grinnell; and two nieces, Sara (Tim) Pearson of Urbandale and Susan (Al) Chingren of Lenexa, Kansas.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband in 2009; her son in 1975; and one nephew, John Light.
