AVIS BILLMAN

Avis A. Billman, 82, of 933 Harrison Ave., Grinnell, died Tuesday, May 2, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Ray Standerwick officiating. Music was provided by Kathleen Heffner, organist, and Bruce Bailey, vocalist.

Pallbearers were Bruce Bailey, Hal Bailey, David Billman, Larry Billman, Cameron Hedlund, Dennis Grapper, Randy Grapper and Ronald Grapper. Honorary bearers were Richard Allen, Wayne Kinzebach, Fred Kilmer and Harry Kilmer. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Searsboro.

The daughter of Harry and Bertie Bunnell Kilmer, she was born March 22, 1908, southeast of Brooklyn. She attended Brooklyn High School.

She was married to Carroll Billman Dec. 12, 1923, in Marshalltown. The couple farmed near State Center, moving to the Oak Grove community south of Grinnell in 1946. They farmed until retiring in the mid-1970s, then moved to Grinnell.

Mrs. Billman was a member of the Oak Grove Friends Church, the Oak Grove and Searsboro Granges, the Rebekah Lodge of Searsboro, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, E. Irene Bailey, Marvin E. Billman and Elmer E. Billman, all of Grinnell, and Sarah J. Grapper of Orlando, Fla.; 27 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Wilma M. "Billie" Kinzebach; three grandchildren; two brothers, Austin and Amos Kilmer; and a sister, Ada Allen.
