MR. BILLMAN RITES THURSDAY

Carroll Billman, 84, of 933 Harrison Ave., Grinnell, died Monday, Feb. 10, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Ray Standerwick, pastor of the Oak Grove Friends Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and vocalists were his grandchildren, Judy Pitman and Bruce Bailey. Pallbearers also were grandchildren, Cameron Hedlund, Lydell Fiest, Hal Bailey, Larry Billman, David Billman and Richard Billman.

Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Searsboro. Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Friends Church.

The son of Henry Exline and Emma Ankeny Billman, he was born on Sept. 12, 1901, in Marshall County. He attended the Hartland Friends Church and rural school near the family farm.

On Dec. 12, 1923, he was married to Avis A. Kilmer in Marshalltown. The couple farmed near State Center, moving to the Oak Grove community south of Grinnell in 1946. They farmed until retiring in the mid-1970s and came to Grinnell in 1979. Mr. Billman was a member of Granges at Oak Grove and Searsboro and was a past noble grand of the former Searsboro Odd Fellows lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Avis; two sons, Marvin and Elmer, both of Grinnell; two daughters, Irene Bailey of Frankfort, Ind., and Sarah J. Grapper of Greensburg, Kan.; 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mabel Wolf of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Wilma Kinzebach; three grandchildren; seven brothers, Walter, Andrew, Elmer, Fred, Ray, Floyd and Rollie; and three sisters, Pearl Goecke, Sadie Vaigert and Mary Willia.
