DR. C.E. SHIFFLETT
FORMER GRINNELLIAN
DIES IN CALIFORNIADr. C.E. Shifflett, 85, former Grinnell area resident, died Aug. 4th at the Veterans hospital in Sawtelle, Calif. He had been in failing health for the past two months.
Born on a farm in the Sheridan community near Grinnell on Dec. 2nd, 1874, he attended country and town schools and Still College at Coffeyville, Kan. He was united in marriage with Lena Talbott of Brooklyn and started his career in Coffeyville where their two children, Basil, now deceased, and Mrs. Laura Reline, now of Los Angeles, Calif., were born.
Dr. Shifflett served with the 25th Engineers in World War I and saw active duty in France and Germany. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners and was affiliated with the Episcopal church.
Since 1931, he had made his home with his sister, Mrs. Ione Dunning in Los Angeles.
Dr. Shifflett was an uncle of Mrs. Carl Paxson of Grinnell.
