RITES HELD FOR
MR. SHIFFLETT

Everett Judd Shifflett, 72, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Grinnell, died at his home Sunday morning.

The son of Louis A. and Matilda Wold Shifflett, he was born June 12, 1900, at Dolliver, Iowa. He was graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1918. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1918 as a landsman for electricity and radio at Great Lakes Navel Radio School. He was transferred to Cambridge, Mass., and later detailed to Norfolk, Va. Following his discharge he returned home and entered business college at Cedar Rapids and was later associated with the Aetna Biscuit Company. Early in 1922 he enlisted in the regular army and was stationed at Camp Grant, Ill., as radio instructor and served as a second lieutenant at Camp Custer, Mich. In 1928 he received his B.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin.

In August off 1937 he was married to Barbara Borwith. He was associated with the Haskins & Sells CPA firm of New York City and in 1939 became a partner in the firm, which does most of General Motors Corporation accounting. From 1961 to 1963, he served as chairman of American Institute of CPA Committee on Relations with Securities and Exchange Commission and New York Stock Exchange. In 1964 he was author of his firm's report on President Lyndon B. Johnson's financial affairs.

He was the author of books and pamphlets on electronic data processing, penison plans, administrative procedure of stock brokerage firms and other subjects.

Mr. Shifflett was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church and various professional societies. He retired in 1965 and had since made his home in Scottsdale. He was a member of Kiva Club and Phoenix Country Club; LaJalla, Calif., Country Club; University Club and India House in New York City; and was president of Siwanoy Country Club near Bronxville, N.Y. He was involved with many charitable organizations, and he established a scholarship at Grinnell High School.

Mr. Shifflett is survived by his wife, Barbara; one sister, Mrs. Frank (Darlene) Rogers of Leon, Iowa; one brother, Asher W. Shifflett of Monroeville, Pa.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1944, his father in 1945, and his brother, Howard C. Shifflett, who died at the age of six in 1911.

Funeral services for Mr. Shifflett were held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. J. Eugene Young, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Elbert Smith, and pallbearers were Robert T. Ashby, Ray George, Emmett Harrington, Gordon Murray, and Laverne Raffety.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
